Community Services (Calgary)
In 1887 The Salvation Army began its work in Calgary by opening our first church in the city, The Calgary Citadel Corps. Over the years, The Salvation Army in Calgary continued to grow, increasing its social and religious services. The Salvation Army is constantly evolving to meet the most pressing needs of the time. Over the years this has included many programs like an orphanage, a hospital, seniors housing, a school, and shelters.
In 1972, our social services were amalgamated into one unit – Community Services Calgary. Our commitment is to offer hope through supportive services to strengthen our community. We give hope by providing shelter and support to Calgarians experiencing homelessness, sharing food with those struggling with hunger, creating opportunities for learning and connection to newcomers and families, and providing comfort and encouragement where needed.
When you give to The Salvation Army, you are investing in the future of your community.
You are not here in the world for yourself. You have been sent here for others.

We bring knowledge
The Salvation Army has a proven track record of serving the vulnerable since 1865. The first Salvationists arrived here in Calgary in 1887 and we opened our first building to help the vulnerable in 1905.

We empower
All programs focus on nurturing the capacities, skills, strengths and dignity of each individual rather than just giving a hand out.

We are local
Although blessed to be part of an international organization, our focus is on the needs of our own community. We are Calgarians serving Calgarians and dollars raised in Calgary, stay in Calgary.

We are inclusive
Although our work is motivated by our faith, we are here to support all who have need. We help one person at a time, believing each person is infinitely valuable and equally worthy.
